About Brook Farm
Not
many of us are more than a couple of generations removed from an
agricultural derived existence. Urban living with all that it offers
leaves many of us still longing for a piece of ground and a chance to be
much closer to the natural environment. The Brook family retreated from
the prosperity and fast pace of suburban Chicago to the rural Harvard,
Illinois countryside in 1977. We grew vegetables and bedding plants on
25 acres as a part-time venture for many years while the children were
growing up and then going to college. Richard has now taken early
retirement to grow full time.

BROOK FARM HISTORY
& PHILOSOPHY
| |
|
With the
emergence of direct marketing opportunities through Farmers’
Markets, and CSA’s it is now possible for the
small acreage specialty crop grower to be fairly rewarded for his
capital investment, labor, specialized knowledge and risk. With the
support of our customers we hope to continue growing as long as we
are physically able. It is a joy to be on the land. |

We believe
sustainable agriculture is the foundation underlying our economy and
mankind’s future. Our focus is on providing the freshest and most
flavorful vegetables to customers living in our local area. As we
attempt to do this, Brook Farm will make every effort not to degrade our
farmland or water resources. Organic materials that would otherwise be
discarded as waste are brought to the farm to enhance soil tilth and
productivity. Recycling and composting are practiced at every
opportunity and on site power generation through a wind turbine or PV
installation is in the planning stage for the farm. Please visit
us at the Woodstock Farmers market to purchase our locally grown, in
season vegetables and bedding plants. Thanks for visiting our website. |
